Platts - Monday, June 16, 2003 http://www.platts.com ------------ London (Nuclear News Flashes)--13Jun2003 Bruce-4 delayed restart will cut extra BE income Bruce-4's delayed restart will reduce extra income expected by British Energy (BE), the U.K. nuclear generator announced. BE said June 13 it has been advised by Bruce station operator Bruce Power that unit 4 is expected to come back on line June 30, and unit 3 on July 30. Under the terms of the February sale of its 82.4% interest in Bruce Power to an all-Canadian consortium, BE was to receive an additional (Cdn)$50- million if unit 4 restarted by June 15 and another $50- million if unit 3 began operating by Aug. 1. Any delay in the restart of each unit results in the payments being reduced by 10% per month, falling to zero after nine months. Bruce Power is to pay the Provincial Government of Ontario any amounts forfeited by BE. ------------ NRC may relax parts of vessel head inspection order NRC might relax some provisions of its vessel head inspection order, an NRC staffer said June 12. At the end of a day-long meeting with the nuclear industry on materials issues, Allen Hiser, a senior materials engineer, said the NRC staff had received many more relaxation requests than it had expected when it issued the order in February. He proposed that the industry submit a technical case for relaxing parts of the order that dealt with non-sensitive areas of vessel head penetration nozzles and were common to many of the requests. But neither the NRC staff nor the industry representatives were clear on the process for such a submittal. ------------
