Platts - Monday, November 08, 2004 http://www.platts.com ------------ FPL reschedules St. Lucie-2 refueling outage Washington (Platts)--8Nov2004 Florida Power & Light (FPL) has postponed St. Lucie-2's scheduled refueling outage, originally planned to begin at the end of this month, until January 2005. In a recent filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission, FPL cited the impacts of hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in September 2004 as the reason for changing the schedule. FPL spokeswoman Rachel Scott said repairs are still being made to some of the site's warehouses and offices that were damaged by the storms. Also, there were concerns about housing for outage workers, since many hotels in the area were damaged and are not expected to open until January. ------------ NRC: Vermont Yankee could safely operate with 20% uprate Washington (Platts)--5Nov2004 Vermont Yankee's systems and components could safely operate under 20% uprate conditions, an NRC inspection team concluded in preliminary findings released today. A team of NRC inspectors and contractors conducted a three-week engineering review at the site this summer, focusing on risk-significant components and operator actions. According to a summary of the findings, the team also found that owner Entergy Nuclear had "implemented sufficient design controls for engineering work" at the plant. The team identified eight findings of very low safety significance and flagged one item relating to electrical equipment as "unresolved," which will be the subject of further review. NRC said it also may ask for more information on a handful of topics relevant to the company's uprate request. The preliminary findings are on NRC's Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/plant-specific- items/vermont-yankee-issues/prelim.pdf. ------------
